Why You Will Benefit from Attending
This year's conference will bring you up to speed on recent changes and hot topics in Washington water law, as we examine how large energy projects, the Nooksack/WRIA 1 General Water Adjudication, and the state budget, among other topics, will impact water resources.
The first day of the program will start with an update on Ecology's Water Resource Program. You will receive a refresher on the Water Code and an overview of changes and transfers to water rights. This will be followed by an update on Ecology's exempt wells policy and Group A Water System Plan's jurisdictional Memorandum of Understanding. The day will conclude with presentations on the impact of water demand for large energy projects.
On the second day, you will hear an update on the next phase of the WRIA 1 Nooksack General Water Adjudication, followed by an update on Pollution Control Hearings Board Rulemaking. The annual Case Law Update will be crucial for anyone tracking or engaged in water resources litigation and water policy development in Washington, and will include an update on the highly anticipated 25-year update to the Water Law Blue Book.
You will also hear Washington Supreme Court Justice Debra L. Stevens' tips for using science in the courtroom, plus an update on what judges learn about water law when they attend the National Judicial College's "Dividing the Waters" program. Finally, you will hear practice tips for addressing conflicts of interest that may arise in multi-party water proceedings.
